Why Bexley?

London is one of the most successful big cities in the world and a great place to live and do business. Over recent years it has proved its resilience in the face of economic recession and today its economy is once again speeding up and that is likely to create new opportunities.

The 2012 Olympic Games and the construction of major transport infrastructure like Crossrail have started to move London’s ‘centre of gravity’ to the east.  The London Borough of Bexley is now ideally situated as both a location for business and an opportunity area for development.

London and the South East offers the biggest market place in the UK and Bexley is strategically placed, right on its doorstep.  The capital has a veracious appetite for goods and services that has resulted in Bexley maintaining its role as a base for supplying it with everything it needs, like food, drink and building materials. With over a million more inhabitants predicted in London by 2021 we expect demand to continue to grow and Bexley’s location as a base for business to become increasingly important to London.  Bexley can also look outwards to Europe. Eurotunnel and the majority of the channel ports are just over an hour away. London’s new container super-terminal, London Gateway, is only 40 minutes by road.

Longer term proposals for new crossings at Greenwich, the Silvertown Link, and a Lower Thames Crossing in either Dartford or Gravesend mean that Bexley will continue to be a valuable location for many years to come. Our strategic location and connectivity is examined in more depth on the About Bexley page.

Unlike many other outer London Boroughs, Bexley retains a thriving manufacturing and industrial sector. This means we have the commercial accommodation and the workforce to support almost any type of business. Bexley is home to London’s third largest industrial area and some of the largest cleared sites in the capital, meaning that we can accommodate large-scale, new-build projects with relative ease.  Bexley also offers significant opportunities for non-industrial development. We are working with some of the biggest and best developers in the UK to deliver residential projects throughout the borough.

As well as opportunities in the borough, Bexley is at the heart of one of the biggest development areas in Europe, the Thames Gateway. Within a 20 mile radius of the borough, thousands of new homes are being built, massive retail schemes are progressing and some of the largest infrastructure projects in Europe are being planned. The Sub Regional Development Map will give an idea of the scale of things.
